What
Do We Do?
Essentially,
we meet on a regular basis and enjoy a good deal of fellowship. This can
range from our regular Monday evening dinner meetings to day trips out,
or even longer trips abroad. The more serious side of the club's
activity is to either provide or enable the provision of help and
assistance to worthy causes within a variety of deserving communities
and organisations.
The
club is divided up into committees, each with its own responsibilities.
Every 6 weeks we make our regular Monday meeting a Business Meeting, at
which each committee chairman reports to the club members on the
progress of his or her committee.
Membership:
This committee deals with the day to day running of the club, the
recruitment of new members and the ongoing programme of weekly meetings
and events, including booking speakers.
Fundraising:
Without money, very little can be achieved and this committee have
responsibility for organising fundraising activities to generate the
necessary funds to finance the club projects.
Foundation:
Rotary Foundation is Rotary International's own charity. The funds
generated are used to promote international goodwill and understanding
through a very wide range of humanitarian and educational projects.
Community
& Vocational:
This committee identifies and supports a variety of initiatives within
the local community. They organise fun days out for needy children,
provide assistance to local voluntary organisations and
Youth
Activities:
Events such as the Technology Tournament, Young Chef and Youth Speaks
are aimed at encouraging young people to participate and develop their
abilities and self confidence.
International:
Through links with other clubs around the world, this committee engage
in a variety of projects, helping to establish medical clinics, provide
equipment for orphanages, schools and hospitals in poor countries.
Twinning:
Since 1995 we have been twinned with a French club, the Rotary Club of
Maisons Laffitte, located about 20 miles outside Paris in the town of
Maisons Laffitte. The two clubs are very similar in size and meet
socially from time to time, both in France and in England.
